Re: Tony Blair, Middle East Envoy
Blair was the Prime Minister of our great & proud country when he bare faced lied, covered up and conspired to invade a country that had nothing whatsoever to do with 9/11.

The consequences of this, along with the trigger happy Yanks, was the huge & needless loss of life of innocent Iraqi’s and the equally needless loss of life and miserable lifelong injury to our own armed forces.

Quite how this cunt sleeps at night is beyond me, let alone make millions off of the carnage he helped to cause.

He should have been be brought to justice on war crimes, not given a peacemaker role with the relevant salary to go with it.

The mans a cunt.

"human beings are not cut out to be commune animals"

Quite frankly that is a stupid statement. Human development has been characterised by its social nature and living/ cooperating in communities .

If you were to say that humans do not subscribe to the "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need" mantra then that is something else completely.

Yes and a Labour politician representing the working class too...

When will socialists learn that human beings are not cut out to be commune animals. We are animals that survived by being the smartest and the fittest.

Tony Blair was smart to con the masses as a politician and now does it for money. He is making more in his time after politics than our owners have made in their lifetime in business.

I'll bet he doesn't pay his tax in the UK or tax on all his income either... Socialism is like religion. A ridiculous idea founded on idealism and yet screwing up the western world with silly ideas of equality.

Did a good job of fucking up the middle east. An even better job of destroying England. Became rich in the process. Responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths. Arise Sir Tony.

I said that the Left became of little or no use over a century ago. It was since the 50s/60s that it became hostile to its inception. There's some useful scholarly works about that, Nick Cohen points it out very well.

Re: Tony Blair, Middle East Envoy
I sort of get what your saying Gavros even if it includes saying massive sweeping statements. Personally, I think that the left and right labels are rather simplistic especially as politics is now involved with every single aspect of life. Whereas I may take some (what would be described as) left leaning economic positions all the rest of the baggage that comes with the lefty tag is a million miles away from my beliefs. In practice, though the UK has two main parties that hardly stray from the centre with any shift away greatly exaggerated by themselves or the media.

I think it is an exaggeration to say that Labour abandoned it's roots a century ago but it certainly has for the last 40 or so years. Maybe this was inevitable with the changing nature of society and a self-defeating result of what Labour originally stood for to bring at least a basic acceptable standard of living for the masses. To maintain this position in the borrowing frenzied post-industrialised state of the nation will be the challenge for the future.

Re: Tony Blair, Middle East Envoy
Labour abandoned the working man years ago. Its not a case of entrenched right ring views so much as railing against the identity politics of a generally middle class clique of wankers who are so hateful of themselves that they will stick up for any old shit as long as it is against simple things like people trying to get on in their life in a decent, moral way. Like many people I would like to see a proper socialist party that isnt religonist, classist, or all the other ists that those that claim the left these days subscribe to. The Left as it is is such a lie to basic principles of the left that its become a joke.

Not that the real left ever did anything really positive after the inception of unionism in the 1880s anyway. It lost its way over a century ago.

Re: Tony Blair, Middle East Envoy
Saul,

It is interesting that so many take such entrenched party political views when the differences between what they actually deliver is largely in their own minds and a media creation.

Politics is made up of privately educated individuals who choose a party not out of conviction but where they see their own self-interest lying.

Re: Tony Blair, Middle East Envoy
I stopped voting Labour because of the Iraq war. Make no mistake that this would have been fought by conservatives, who fully supported the Government at that time.

I find all the Blair baiting on here a bit hypocritical. This site is predominantly Garnettesque right wing. He is one of yours.
